We have been working on this album for about 14 months now and it’s a combination of those past 14 months. You have a new album coming out called “Get Wet” can you tell me about it? They are not our little minions, they are our family and friends. We call them our Krew because we feel like they are our friends, our buddies, our team, and our family. We naturally started calling our fans our “Krew”. That’s another thing that’s kind of fallen into place too, “Get Wet”. It really represents our sound with Chris’ dark, metal inspired production along with our melodic vocals.

I love how it is feminine yet it feels dark and evil at the same time. With Krewella I really feel like it’s something that people won’t forget. The spelling is different to the Disney character, “Cruella”. I love names that are unforgettable, names that you can Google. It was a very unique name as titles go, song titles, and artists names. The name popped in my head and I didn’t second-guess it. We tried out a couple of other girls beforehand, when it was just Chris and I. This was before Yasmine joined the group. How did you come up with you stage name Krewella? We put out our first songs and it seems like so long ago. It was July 2011 – so exactly 2 years, 2 months ago. We are singers and song writers and we all DJ.Īlmost seven years, since 2007, but we debuted only 3 years ago. We have a third member Chris aka Rain Man and he’s our producer. He took a moment to praise his friends in Krewella for an amazingly successful year and thanked them for letting him join their evening. Mixing hip hop, dubstep and even a little bit of drum and bass, 12th Planet’s amped-up set was the perfect way to wrap this party. This LA native is the Godfather of the dubstep game-frequently touted as the American Dubstep King.

The cherry on top? 12th Planet surprised the crowd with a full set after Krewella wrapped up. But not to fear, die-hard Krewella fans-every moment of their set was accentuated with that deep, nasty grime that we all love so much. I mean, it WAS a foam party after all…it would be a false advertising if it didn’t get at least a little ravey at points. The trio perfectly balanced the pacing of the set-playing all of their hits (and some other peoples) but mixing it up with some rowdy trap and high-octane house sound. Being a DJ set, the girls swapped their signature vocals for turntables and proved their talent in the production arena. The evening was unique in that it truly did feel like a party more than a concert. Though they didn’t have their new “Volcano” stage with them, the light and video production was still excellent and filled the space perfectly. When they’re on stage, they pour everything into their performance-by the end they were soaked with sweat and ready to celebrate with their fans. Krewella took the stage with unparalleled enthusiasm ready to rage their way through a perfectly executed DJ set. With Exchange LA’s superb sound system at his disposal, his set raised the stakes.īut the real stars of the show were the kids from Chicago. In my opinion, he has the most progressive sound coming out of the OWSLA label to date.

Constantly pushing the boundaries of genres, Seven Lions is ethereal and mesmerizing in one moment and the next hair-raising and aggressive. Originally a metal/punk drummer, Montalvo is a true innovator of the EDM sound. Up next was the soul-shaking sound of fellow Santa Barbara native Seven Lions aka Jeff Montalvo. Mark my words: these guys are on their way up and it won’t be long before their headlining their own shows across the country. California’s own DJ duo Candyland (Ethan Davis and Josie Martin) started the evening off right with their hard-hitting style of trap, dubstep and house. It may have been a Tuesday night, but the sidewalks outside of Exchange LA were packed full of fans eager to celebrate the release of Get Wet.
